Installation Guide

Roller Blind Installation (SEE VENETIAN BLINDS DOWN THE PAGE)

Installing a blind takes only 5 minutes! All you need is:

  • A pencil
  • Screwdriver (No.2 square-head)
  • Drill with 2mm drill bit


Inside Mount Installation

1. Mount brackets

With each blind you will receive two brackets - one male used for the chain control side of the blind, and one female which mounts on the pin (non-control) side.

Hold the brackets to the place on your window frame where they are to be fixed. With a pencil, mark the two screw holes and then drill a pilot hole in the middle of each marking with a 2mm drill bit.

Now use the screws provided to fix the brackets to the window frame.

2. Install blind

First remove the blind from tube. Do not remove securing tape from assembly at this stage.

Install your blind into the male bracket first which is also the chain side. Before installing the blind into the bracket, make sure the top of the chain drive (two lines) are facing upward (so opening for the chain is facing downwards):

Now remove securing tape from the blind.

Hold the chain-side in position and move to the other side of the blind. Guide the metal spring loaded pin into the track of the female bracket until it clicks into position:


Your blind is now installed - it can now be lowered using the chain control. Once lowered, place the plastic chain stop on the chain where it enters the chain drive. This will prevent the blind from being rolled down too far.


Outside mount installation

1. Mount brackets

With each blind you will receive two brackets - one male used for the chain control side of the blind, and one female which mounts on the pin (non-control) side.

Hold the brackets to the place on your window frame where they are to be fixed. With a pencil, mark the two screw holes and then drill a pilot hole in the middle of each marking with a 2mm drill bit:

2. Install blind

Removing the blind

To remove the blind, turn the large wheel at the pin end anti clockwise:

This action will slide the metal pin inward and the blind will slide out of the bracket.

VENETIAN BLIND INSTALLATION

Installing a blind takes only 5 minutes! You’ll need the following tools:

  • Pencil
  • Screwdriver No#2 square head 
  • Spirit level
  • 2mm drill bit

Instructions are different for blinds that are inside-mounted (set into your window frame) or outside-mounted (covering your window frame)…

 

A. Inside-mounted blinds


1. Mark window jambs to locate headrail mounts

Make sure the headrail is level and clear of obstructions. Remember to keep headrail level - even if the window is not.

 

Make horizontal pencil marks on the window jamb at the bottom edge of the headrail on each side. The mounting brackets will be placed on these marks.


2. Screw side headrail mounts into window jambs

Open the bracket swivel covers with your thumb or screwdriver. Hold the bracket against the jamb surface and align it with the pencil marks above. Using a pencil, mark the location of the two holes for the mounting screws. On wooden jamb surfaces, pre-drill holes for screws using a 2mm drill bit.

Locate screws at least 10mm from the edge of the wood to prevent splitting.
 
(Note: the mounting screws included are for wood or aluminium surfaces. For other surfaces get appropriate fasteners and install them according to the manufacturer's instructions. For plaster, concrete, stone, brick, or tile, use the right-sized plugs, anchors, or screws.)

Use screw-driver or electric drill to screw-in screws to affix bracket.


  
(Hint: Smearing a little bar soap on the screw threads will make them drive more easily.)

Open cover with screwdriver.


3. Screw mid-way headrail mounts into top window jamb (for wider blinds)

Space multiple brackets evenly along headrail, but not where the blind ladders are located (vertical sections in blinds). Mount brackets level with the end brackets.


4. Mount blind into brackets

Insert the headrail into the end brackets.

Close the swivel covers to lock the headrail in place. In the case of 50mm blind brackets, it is important to make sure the swivel end is engaged on the lip on bottom of bracket.


 
If your blind is not fitting snugly horizontally, open the mounting brackets, remove the headrail and bend out the tabs at the ends of the headrail with a screwdriver. If your blind fits too tightly, press the tabs in with a pair of pliers. Now reinstall the headrail and close the mounting bracket covers.


5. Mount valance

Firstly, connect valance front to returns (sides) by sliding angle bracket into slots on backside of valance and return. The valance corners should be flush with no gap.

Remove 3M Duo-Lock Velcro backing tape on outer facing side of these Velcro sections and press valance onto headrail.



Check that valance return presses snugly onto window frame. In the unlikely event that it’s too tight, cut back with hacksaw to fit.


6. Adjust blinds for light level desired

  • Tilt: Note which cord is up-tilt and down-tilt then pull appropriate one to set slats to light level required.
  • Raise or lower: Firstly set slats fully open (not tilted), then pull lift cord straight down. The cord lock should hold the blind in position.

To lower blind, pull cord toward centre of blind and slowly raise your hand while holding onto the cord.


 
CAUTION: When blind is raised, keep excess cords away from door openings to prevent tripping hazard.

 

B. Outside-mounted blinds (including ceiling-mounted)


1. Mark architrave to locate headrail mounts

Hold the headrail against the window architrave, level and properly centred - even if your window is not!


 
Mark the architrave with a pencil horizontally just below the headrail on each end and make a vertical mark 3mm beyond the ends of the headrail. The mounting brackets will be placed on these marks.

For a ceiling or overhead mount, hold the blind against the ceiling, centred in front of the window and make pencil marks 3mm beyond the ends of the headrail. The mounting brackets will be placed on these marks.


2. Screw side headrail mounts in

Open the bracket swivel covers with your thumb or screwdriver. Hold the bracket against the architrave surface (or ceiling for ceiling-mounted blinds) and align it with the pencil marks above. Using a pencil, mark the location of the two holes for the mounting screws.

(Note: the mounting screws included are for wood or aluminium surfaces. For other surfaces get appropriate fasteners and install them according to the manufacturer's instructions. For plaster, concrete, stone, brick, or tile, use the right sized plugs, anchors, or screws.)

Pre-drill holes for screws into architrave using 2mm drill bit. Use screw-driver to screw-in screws to affix bracket.

(Hint: Smearing a little bar soap on the screw threads will make them drive more easily.)

Open cover with screwdriver.


3. Screw mid-way headrail mounts into window architrave (for wider blinds)

Space multiple brackets evenly along headrail, but not where the blind ladders are located (vertical sections in blinds). Mount brackets level with the end brackets.


4. Mount blind into brackets

Insert the headrail into the end brackets.

Close the swivel covers to lock the headrail in place. In the case of 50mm blind brackets, it is important to make sure the swivel end is engaged on the lip on bottom of bracket.

If your blind is not fitting snugly horizontally, open the mounting brackets, remove the headrail and bend out the tabs at the ends of the headrail with a screwdriver.
